High winds knock out power to 43K; advisory issued until midnight

High winds are wreaking havoc in areas of southeast Michigan.

DTE Energy reports that 43,000 are without power in Detroit and western Wayne County including a portion north of I-94.

A wind advisory is in effect for all of southeast Michigan until midnight tonight with winds expected to reach 20 to 30 miles an hour and gusts of 45 to 55 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds are expected to gradually diminish by midnight.
