Highland Park officer shot in leg in raid expected to recover
A Highland Park police officer was shot in the leg during a raid Monday night.
The officer is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Mayor DeAndre Windom said the officer may go home as early as Tuesday.
The shooting occurred in the 200 block of Candler near McNichols and Woodward Avenue. Highland Park's SWAT team was conducting a raid just before 7 p.m.
Before entering the house, someone shot from a window and struck the officer in the leg.
Fellow officers transported him to a nearby hospital where he went into surgery. Police arrested the alleged shooter and a second person from inside the house.
Last week, a Highland Park reserve officer was shot and killed while working security at a Detroit club late Friday night. Roderick Jones was killed after kicking two men out of Club Opyum, who are accused of ambushing him later in the parking lot.
