Hot air balloon makes water landing into retention pond

A hot air balloon made a water landing in a retention pond near Walt Disney World on Monday.  The pilot was attempting to land in a nearby field by never made.

A rider, Sebastian Westerby, said that there were 16 people on board, in addition to the pilot, when the balloon went down around 8 a.m. along southbound State Road 429

"It touched the water, and he was like, 'Just stand up. It's gonna be fine,'" Westerby explained.

Fortunately, everyone got out of the water safely, and there were no injuries; however, one child was transported to a hospital after swallowing a lot of water.

The pilot told authorities that it was a sudden shift in wind that prompted the water landing.  Because there were no injuries or serious damage, we are told by the National Transportation Safety Board that it is likely they will not be investigating the incident.
