I-75 closed this weekend between I-696 and Square Lake Road

MDOT is closing a major stretch of I-75 this weekend in Oakland County for some bridge demolition work.

Starting Friday at 10 p.m., both directions of I-75 will be closed between I-696 and Square Lake Road. The closure is needed for demolishing the Wattles Road and Corporate Drive overpasses above the freeway.

The recommended detour is Woodward Avenue.

Both directions of I-75 will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday, May 13.

This construction is part of the $224 million reconstruction and improvement project happening on I-75.

The big project involves reconstructing more than 8 miles of pavement, improving 18 structures, upgrading drainage, constructing community-developed aesthetics and federally approved noise walls, and continuing construction of an additional travel lane between Coolidge Highway and 13 Mile Road.

The entire I-75 modernization project involves rebuilding approximately 18 miles of pavement, replacing bridges, adding a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction, and bringing the freeway up to current design standards from north of M-102 (Eight Mile Road) to South Boulevard.
