Komen Detroit Race for the Cure features new route along Detroit River

The Komen Detroit Race for the Cure began with a brand new route this year, taking runners by the Detroit River.

It is Michigan's largest fund raising event to fight breast cancer, celebrating 25 years. FOX 2 has been a a proud sponsor since 2006.

Since the first Detroit race in 1992, more than $27 million has been raised and invested in the fight against breast cancer supporting screening, treatment support and education for underserved communities, as well as funding breast cancer research in Michigan and around the world.

Known as one of the best days in the City of Detroit, the Komen Detroit Race for the Cure showcased 10,000 pink ribbons decorating East Jefferson Avenue.

Several bands and entertainment groups performed all around Chene Park. Congratulations Detroit -- this year's event was a smash hit.
