Local dentist to host Halloween candy buyback for the fifth year

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WJBK --  A St. Clair Shores dentist and his staff have been collecting Halloween candy since 2011.

Last year, Dr. Steven Wainess’ office collected 755 pounds of candy, which went to the U.S troops serving overseas.

The event returns this Sunday.  Candy will be collected between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at his office located at 30140 Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores.

Children will receive $1 per pound of candy.  They are also encouraged to bring letters and drawings for the troops.

Once the candy and letters are packed up, they will ship them to Operation Gratitude who will disperse the goodies into care packages that are sent to troops serving around the world.
