Macomb County man accused of hitting girlfriend's brother in head with weightlifting bar

Jevonn Green (Macomb County Prosecutor's Office)

A Macomb County man allegedly hit his girlfriend's brother in the head several times with a weightlifting bar, leading to a skull fracture.

Jevonn Green, 46, of Chesterfield Township, is now facing charges of assault with intent to murder, aggravated domestic violence, and assault with a dangerous weapon. He's charged as a fourth-offense habitual offender.

The backstory:

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, Green arrived at the home he shares with his girlfriend and her brother on Sunday while the 61-year-old brother was asleep on the couch. Green allegedly hit the victim with a weightlifting bar several times before waking up his girlfriend, who was asleep in another room, and told her to call 911.

The victim suffered a decompressed skull fracture and a brain bleed. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.

"It is extremely troubling that a man was allegedly assaulted while he slept, completely defenseless. Domestic violence is not limited to romantic partners. If you are the victim of domestic violence, call 911 in the event of an emergency. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24/7 at (800) 799-7233," said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido.

What's next:

Green was given a $250,000 cash/surety bond.

At the request of his defense, he will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Green is scheduled to appear in court again on April 16.
