Main Street in Pontiac becomes Hauntiac all October long

Just call the city Hauntiac for the next couple weeks.

Piggybacking off of the world-renowned Erebus Haunted House, Pontiac is becoming haunted all October long. Erebus is one of the top haunted houses around, and the entire city is getting into the Halloween spirit to make the city the place thee place to be to get creeped out. You'll find spooky events along Main Street all month long.

"The Halloween season every year picks up more momentum in Pontiac and this year we're putting it on steroids," said Pontiac Arts Commission Chair Mike McGuinness .

For now, Hauntiac is taking the Halloween season to a new level. It started on the first day of Fall and ends Halloween night.

"We have a really fun upswing happening in the Pontiac community with a lot of new development, new businesses and entertainment," McGuinness said.

"It's a good thing for all of us because we need more getting together and help each other. It's a good thing going on," said John Carlos Medina, owner of Corta Latino Barber Shop.

Businesses and neighbors aline are getting into the spooky spirit. One of the biggest activities for kids is the city's Trunk or Treat on October 30. It's a monster success thanks to Pontiac schools and the Oakland county sheriff's office.

"It's a blast. There are literally thousands of kids that come out, all dressed up. It's a really dynamic time," McGuinness said.

So, what's the best day to bring the family? McGuinness says to be in Hauntiac on October 26.

"It's basically the climax for Hauntiac 2018. Main Street Pontiac, our downtown group, is having a masquerade party, Liberty Bar has a costume contest," he said.

There will also be a psychic fair and thousands of people dressed up. McGuinness says artists and musicians will also join the festivities while shops, bars and restaurants will be offering discounts.
