Man charged after innocent bystander shot, killed outside Detroit bar

A man is facing charges after a shooting outside a Detroit bar left an innocent bystander dead last month.

Jovin Morice Taylor, 38, of Detroit, is charged with first-degree murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felon in possession of a firearm, and second-degree felony firearm.

According to officials, Taylor and a 36-year-old Detroit man were arguing in the 6400 block of Woodward Avenue just after 1:30 a.m. Sept. 29. Authorities allege that Taylor pulled out a gun and shot it, hitting 34-year-old Lance Sutherland.

Sutherland, who had no involvement in the fight, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Taylor is due back in court Oct. 25 for a probable cause hearing.
