Man charged after multi-city chase ends with him spitting blood at officer

Christopher Johnson (Wyandotte Police)

A man Wyandotte police say spit blood in an officer's face after a multi-city chase last week is now facing felony charges.

Christopher Johnson, 38, was charged with fleeing and eluding, assaulting police, and operating while intoxicated.

According to police, the victim flagged down police Wednesday to tell them about a driver in a truck trying to run her off the road in the area of 23rd Street near Maple. This led to a chase that went through Southgate, Woodhaven, Trenton, and Riverview before ending in Huron Township.

Wyandotte Police Chief Archie Hamilton said that when Johnson finally stopped, he locked himself in his truck and put it in reverse, hitting a parked vehicle.

"The officers had to smash the window, extract him from the vehicle. He spit blood in an officer’s face and wildly resisted arrest," Hamilton said.

Eventually, multiple officers were able to take Johnson into custody.
