A Lincoln Park man is facing murder charges after the death of a Detroit police officer.

Steven Guzina, 54, is facing a number of charges including second-degree murder; OWI causing death; OWI causing serious bodily injury; failure to stop at scene of accident; and two reckless driving charges.

Authorities say Guzina struck Detroit Police Officer Myron Jarrett on Friday, October 28. Authorities say Jarrett was assisting other officers investigating a traffic accident when Guzina drove by the scene, intoxicated, and struck Jarrett.

Guzina got out of his car and ran, police say, but was found and arrested shortly after.

Police say a woman was in Guzina's car at the time of the crash. Police have found her and have questioned her, and say she is not likely to face charges.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "The death of Officer Jarrett is yet another very tragic result of a person allegedly driving under the influence of intoxicants taking ‎a life. There have been public service announcements and activism about this for decades. There are probably people driving under the influence at this very moment. Who knows when this will stop?"

Guzina is due in court Monday afternoon for his arraignment.

Guzina is one of the owners of Tijuana's Mexican restaurants, with locations in Southgate, Lincoln Park and Detroit.

Jarrett was an 8-year veteran with the police force and was from the 12th Precinct.
