Man in custody after shots fired at police executing search warrant

A man is in custody after police say he fired shots at authorities as they were executing a search warrant at a nearby home Friday morning.

Detroit Police Commander Darin Szilagy says Westland Police were in the area of the 90 block of Edgevale when shots were fired at them from the upstairs window of a neighboring home. They called in a SWAT team and other authorities.

Police say they learned a police report had been filed from that address earlier and they called the number connected to it. A man picked up and police say it was the man inside, and they were able to speak with him and he agreed to come out peacefully.

No other shots were ever fired and the man was taken into custody around 11 a.m. Police didn't say why he may have shot at the officers.

Police didn't offer any details about the search warrant that was being executed.
