Man trying to break up fight outside bar shot and killed, no tips from 'packed' bar

A father of four was just trying to break up a fight when he was shot and killed outside Hangovers Bar in Detroit.

Billy Neal was a bystander last month outside a bar when he became an innocent victim of gun violence. He was found dead with a gunshot wound to the back, his head, and left arm.

It was August 12, around 2 a.m., and Neal was outside the bar on Livernois near 8 Mile. A fight between two women broke out and Neal tried to break it up. Gunshots went off and Neal was hit three times.

He was dead before police got there.

"That club was packed from wall to wall. You can't tell me that nobody knew nothing," his cousin, Deangelo Jackson, said.

Neal's family says the Cooley High School graduate worked hard his whole life. He loved cars and that turned into a collision shop that he owned for 15 years.

Beyond that, he was also known for offering free transportation to seniors and volunteering his time in children's sports organizations.

"You know what you have done. Just turn yourself in," his mom, Lena Neal, said. "We need justice. We need it and we need it now. We don't want this to go on and on and on."

Crimestoppers is offering a $2,500 reward - $3,500 if a tip comes in by midnight Wednesday. You will remain anonymous and rewards are given when an arrest is made.
