Man wounded by drive-by shooting in Harper Woods

A drive-by shooting leaves an 18-year-old Harper Woods man now the search is on for the suspects.

The early morning shooting along Harper Avenue between Huntington and Eastwood has Harper Woods police at work.

"Shortly after 3 a.m. this morning we were notified by St. Johns Hospital that they had a gunshot victim," said Police Chief Jim Burke, Harper Woods police.

Police say the 18-year-old male victim should recover.

"We believe five shots were fired," Burke said.  "We did recover multiple 9 mm shell casings at the scene. The victim's car did sustain damage from the gunshots and the victim was hit several times and right now, he's in stable condition."

This resident says she's lived in the area for 18 years and things keep getting worse.

"It just seems like in the past eight to 10 years, there's been more and more crime, I hear gunfire practically every night from my bedroom window," she said. "I didn't hear it last night because I had on my fan, but it's a little disturbing."

This mother just moved into the neighborhood.

"I'm very concerned," she said. "My kids are out here playing a lot, I'm up early on my way to work. I am very concerned about our safety."

The police chief said detectives are actively searching for several tips. Burke says he can't release much because hinder the investigation.
