Comerica Park is packed with music fans for tonight's Metallica show.

The stadium will be rocking as fans are fired up to see the heavy metal legends take the stage.

Drummer Lars Ulrich spoke about the special relationship the band has had with the Detroit area, remembering their first show here.

"We first came here in 1985," Ulrich said. "We played at the Royal Oak theater, so it's been a 32-year relationship. It's been a relationship that. This is where it started. The fans here were the most passionate, were the earliest.

"They've always loved their music hard and heavy and sort of authentic."

It is a rain or shine show and will be paused only for lightning or torrential rainfall.

Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat will be the opening acts and Metallica is set to take the stage at about 8:15.
