What is closing this week?

Though there is no hard and fast rule for canceling school, it's likely schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Check the school closings list here.

Oakland University:

Meanwhile, Oakland University announced they are closing campus starting at 5 a.m. on Tuesday and will stay closed until 5 a.m. on Thursday due to the cold temperatures. OU said all scheduled classes, regardless of modality, are canceled and all but essential operations will stop. Campus activities outside of classes are also canceled unless communicated otherwise.

"Decisions regarding various changes in university operations due to severe weather are made independently as conditions warrant," OU said in a statement. "During any change in operations, it should not be assumed that additional changes will be made in conjunction with any other."

Detroit Zoo:

In addition to OU, the Detroit Zoo will also close on Tuesday due to the weather.

Officials say the Zoological Society leadership team is monitoring the weather forecasts, and we will reopen once it is determined it can be done safely.

People who have bought a ticket for Tuesday will not get a refund, but will have their tickets honored for admission on any future visit.

Belle Isle Nature Center:

The freezing temperatures will also close the Belle Isle Nature Center on Tuesday.

The center will not be open to the public even if entrance to Belle Isle State Park is permitted.

"The safety of our guests and the animals who call the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center home is our highest priority. Essential team members, including our dedicated animal care staff, will remain on-site to ensure the animals continue to receive the exceptional care they need."

Dearborn Heights City Hall:

The Dearborn Heights City Hall will also be closed on Tuesday due to the weather.

City officials say the closure affects only the City Hall building. Meanwhile, all other city buildings and services will operate as normal.
