Mitchell analysis: Super Tuesday winners, losers

Super Tuesday featured strong showings by Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

FOX 2 Pollster Steve Mitchell gave his analysis on what happened and what could happen in the races going forward.

Clinton was the projected winner of the Democratic presidential primaries in Texas, Arkansas, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Massachusetts.  Bernie Sanders is the projected winner of Colorado, Oklahoma, and Vermont.

Republican front-runner Donald Trump scored six state wins as the Republican Primary projected winner of Arkansas, Virginia, Massachusetts, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee, according to FOX News.

Ted Cruz  was the projected winner of the Republican Primary in Texas as well as Oklahoma while Marco Rubio was the projected winner of Minnesota, avoiding a shutout.

Here to help make sense of it all is FOX 2 pollster Steve Mitchell.

"It looked to me that it was exactly as predicted," said Mitchell. "However the win by Ted Cruz in both Texas and Oklahoma -  Texas was expected, Oklahoma, kind of a surprise. There had not been a lot of polling in that state. Clearly Donald Trump is on a roll in the Republican primary and seems to be on his way.

"Rubio who was supposed to be the biggest challenger, clearly did not do the job. John Kasich could win in Vermont and give him a victory, something Rubio has failed to get yet.

"It seems to me that this is still leaning very heavily towards a Donald Trump candidacy."

Mitchell also talks about what it could take to knock Trump off in the Republican race.

When it comes to the Democratic race in Michigan, Mitchell says that Hillary Clinton is in the driver's seat.

"Hillary has been leading by more than 30 points in the last three polls we've done," Mitchell said. "She is really poised to win this. But Bernie Sanders having raised some $42 million in the last week despite losing by 50 percent in South Carolina is going to go on and on and be a lot of trouble for Hillary Clinton, staying in this race until the end."

A new FOX 2 Mitchell Poll will be released Wednesday night.
