Mom arraigned in connection to death of her 3-year old son
DETROIT (WJBK) - A mother has been charged after a young boy was killed in a car crash last week.
Charlessia Pelt, 27, sobbed as the magistrate read the charges against her Sunday morning.
Last week, Pelt was allegedly driving drunk with her son, 3-year-old Michael, in the van and her two other children when she ran a red light at 7 Mile and Hayes, smashing into another car. Michael was ejected and died. Pelt's other daughters, an infant and an 8-year old, weren't hurt.
Considering the nature of the charges, her bond was set at 1-million dollars’ cash surety or 10 percent.
Inside the courtroom Pelt had support, her family and friends saying only this after she was charged.
“Just pray for us, she is going through so much right now,” a family friend said.
Her family continues to support her openly each time we have talked to them, despite the charges against her. They tell FOX 2 that she was turning to alcohol while dealing with depression. Unfortunately, her son Michael paid the ultimate price.
Pelt's next court date has not been set, However the family continues to work on arrangements for Michael. Donations can be sent to the family’s GoFundMe page.
