Murder dismissed for man in stabbing pregnant mom of 4, causing court outburst
DETROIT (WJBK) - Willie Wilborn was in court charged with first degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, 24 year old Ladiamond Myers.
A mother of four children, Myers, 24, pregnant with her fifth when she was killed. Investigators say Myers was killed the day before her body was discovered, stabbed and beaten in the head with at least five separate blows.
But after Friday's preliminary exam in a surprise move, the case against Wilborn, 29, was dismissed by Judge Kenneth L. King. The judge cited lack of evidence, but it was too much for the family to bear, with one relative unable to contain an outburst.
"Right now as it stands it is insufficient even on the probable cause theory, I have no recourse ..."
"I can't believe this," said one family member, headed to the courtroom door. "He killed her your honor ... oh my God."
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said it plans to work with police to find additional evidence and reissue charges.
Earlier in the exam, an assistant medical examiner testified it was the repeated blunt force trauma to head that ultimately killed Myers.
"Focusing on the head ... there was bruising on the forehead and also the left scalp," said Lokman Sung, assistant medical examiner. "When the skull cap was removed there was extensive bleeding over the left hemisphere of the brain."
Neighbor Willie Mae Jackson testified she saw Myers with no clothes on, lying on a mattress on the floor inside her house on Braile Street on Detroit's west side on June 29.
Attorney: "Did you check to see if she was okay?"
"By that time I was upset my niece had already gone in there first and she was screaming so, it made me go in after her," testified Willie Mae Jackson, a neighbor. "I could tell she was dead, by that time the police told me to leave."
