One dead, five shot in east Detroit face-off shooting

Five people were shot and one man died Saturday evening as two groups squared off on Detroit's east side.

The incident took place on the 9500 block of Oakland near Holbrook and I-75. Police have not identified the deceased or the person responsible for the shooting.

A bystander, a 16-year-old girl who was walking by, was shot in the crossfire. Police said she was not an intended target -- she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her condition, like the other four wounded, is non-life threatening.

In all, 35 shell casings littered the ground from the wild gun battle.

Detroit Police Department Captain Darin Szilagy said one person is in custody and detectives are working to determine if there are more shooters.
