One dead, one hurt in shooting at home on Detroit's west side

A shooting on Detroit's west side Saturday afternoon has left one man dead and one wounded.

Police say two men were on a porch at a home near Cambridge and Oakfield when a man came around the corner and opened fire.

One victim was hit in the head and died from his injuries.

The other was hit in the leg and is in a hospital right now.

Police said there are other witnesses besides the surviving victim, which will be a big help in the investigation.

"The biggest part of solving all the crimes we have here in the city is the getting the citizens to cooperate and tell us what's going on," said Capt. Kurt Worboys of the Detroit Police Department.

Both victims are not from this neighborhood.

Police hope the witnesses will help them be able to come up with a composite sketch of the shooting suspect.
