One person shot, one arrested after fight at youth football game

PONTIAC, MICH (Fox 2) - The Oakland County Sheriff's Department said that one person was shot during a fight that broke out at a youth football game Sunday afternoon in Pontiac. 

The backstory:

One person was hospitalized, and the alleged shooter was in custody Sunday evening. 

Pontiac Mayor Mike McGuinness released a statement saying that the adult who was shot, was injured with a non-fatal wound at Wisner Stadium.

He added that no children were hurt and the remaining games were canceled for the day.

"The young athletes and their families didn’t do anything to deserve this new traumatic memory and to miss out on their athletic opportunities,: he said in a statement. "If you want our community to do better and be better, you’re going to have to check your ego, pride, anger, and guns at the door."

Jennifer Prince-Washington, the president of the Pontiac Panthers youth football, called it a "serious and unfortunate incident."

"We have confirmed that no players or families from either youth organization were involved in the incident or physically injured," she said in a statement.
