59-year-old David Madrigal was found dead in his Detroit home on December 21, 2015.

Police have arrested a person of interest in the murder of a Detroit firefighter in December.

David Madigral was found dead inside his home on Vaughan by his son on Monday, Dec. 21. The medical examiner said Madrigal had died from blunt force trauma to his head.

Family said he lived in the house on Vaughan for ten years and planned to move once he retired. The 59-year-old man won't get that chance after being killed.

According to the family, his safe – which was bolted to the floor – was stolen, along with his new Ford Explorer. The SUV was found Saturday before Madrigal’s body was discovered. Detroit police say there are no signs of forced entry at the house.

Police have not said who the person of interest is or his relation to Madrigal.
