Pilates proves life-changing for couple who opened Berkley studio
BERKLEY, Mich. (WJBK) - There are so many forms of exercise, but one in particular was life changing for a metro Detroit couple.
Brooke Goodwin is a certified instructor and owner of Reforming Foundations Pilates and Wellness, but she got to this great place after a really hard challenge. About ten years ago, her husband was diagnosed with cancer.
"He had lymphoma at the age of 32. We went through the whole nine yards of cancer treatment; surgery, chemo, radiation. It left him just totally wiped out. It took everything he had on a daily basis just to shower, and then had to go sit down before he could do anything else," Goodwin says.
The two of them started dabbling in Pilates and it changed both their lives.
"It became our weeknight date night. We started it together; we'd go out to dinner afterward, and it really helped him to regain his strength and his vital energy," Goodwin says. "At the same time, I just fell in love with the method of movement and it really helped me strengthen my own body and deal with my own joint issues.
Brooke's husband is now strong and healthy, and she was so inspired she opened up her own studio to help others.
