Plane clips tail of other plane at DTW

ROMULUS, Mich. (WJBK) - There was an accident involving two planes at Detroit Metro Airport Wednesday morning, confirms the airport's spokesperson Michael Conway. He says an American Airlines plane was at the de-icing pad when it clipped the tail of a Southwest Airlines plane that was parked.

Conway says no one was injured, and that there was no leakage or major damage done to the planes. The accident happened around 6 a.m.

It is unclear at this time how many people were on the planes when this happened. One passenger, Jim Bishop, talked with FOX 2 about what happened. He says he was still on the plane two-and-a-half hours later, when he should have already arrived in Dallas at this point. You can hear more from him in the video player above.

Some passengers on the plane have been tweeting photos of the clipped wing, asking how something like this could happen.

Southwest Airlines issued this statement following the accident: 

"Southwest Airlines flight 9 was in the process of being deiced this morning at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) when an aircraft belonging to another carrier came into contact with the Southwest aircraft's tail area. There are no reports of injuries, and the Southwest aircraft is now out of service for maintenance. The flight was scheduled to operate from DTW to Dallas Love Field (DAL), and the Southwest Team is in the process of accommodating customers on alternate flights. We appreciate the patience of our customers as we work diligently to get them safely to their final destinations."

Fox 2 is awaiting comment from American Airlines. It is unclear at this time where that flight was heading.
