Police investigating after Detroit man shot while mowing lawn

Police are investigating after a man was shot in a yard on Detroit's west side.

The victim, Vee Easley, was mowing the lawn for his cousin at his house in the 17 thousand block of Pontchartrain Boulevard. That's when police say the suspect came up, shot Easley and then ran off.

Easley's cousin was inside the home at the time and tells FOX 2's Erika Erickson he did not hear the gunshots.

Easley was able to drive himself to a nearby police station, where he was transported to the hospital. He was shot in the side and expected to be okay. Family says he has undergone surgery and is recovering.

Police have brought in canine units to the area to help search for the suspect.

It's not clear at this time why the shooting occurred. A police source tells Erika the suspect may have attempted to rob Easley before the shooting.
