Police: Man fatally shot in head by 17-year-old

A 24-year-old man found shot and killed, his body left in the middle of the street on Detroit's west side. The suspected killer is just 17 years old.

Mylin Jenkins was an aspiring model and dentist and had just turned 24 on Friday. He was out celebrating with friends on Sunday night.

"He wasn't bad people, he wasn’t anybody that someone should have done this to," said a friend. "It shouldn't have happened."

Friends say Jenkins was at a house on Steel Street where his birthday party was wrapping up Monday morning. According to them, he was spending extra time with a 17-year-old.

Jenkins was parked in the driver seat of his car when the 17-year-old suspect sitting behind him allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.

"Mylin was thrown out of the car and the other boy jumped into the driver seat and drove off," said a friend of Jenkins. "I tried to give him CPR, but it was too late."

Friends also say the 17-year-old suspect was part of their group and recently showed signs of anger toward Jenkins.

Police are still looking for him and hope a few items left at the scene - a weapon, wallet and sunglasses - will lead them to their shooter.

UPDATE: The suspect in this case surrendered to police at about 6:30 p.m. - about two hours after a barricaded standoff.
