Police respond to barricaded gunman situation in Shelby Township

A man has been shot Thursday afternoon after barricading himself, then coming out of the home with a gun Shelby Township.

Police responded to what they say was a suicidal subject with a weapon at Providence Park Condominiums in the area of 24 Mile Road.

Around 3:43 p.m., the subject was shot and  taken into custody, then taken to the hospital.

Crissman Elementary School located nearby was put on lockdown.

"Our students are not permitted outside during the lockdown. Our students are safe and are to be commended for their conduct. They are maintaining their concentration in class and responding well to the precautions we are taking to ensure their safety," a post to their Facebook page read.

The school said police advised them to avoid 24 Mile and Van Dyke.

 

UPDATE 4:12 p.m.:

Criss Elementary posted to its Facebook page that it received an all clear from the Shelby Township Police Department.
