Police are trying to identify a body discovered decomposing under debris near the intersection of Reynolds and McNichols Tuesday.

They describe the deceased as a white male, who was decomposing for some time.

Detroit police say the discovery of this body stemmed from a missing persons case. They say the young white male is in his 20s and was reported missing in this area about a week ago.

Detroit police say Michigan State Police were also in the area Monday, searching for this person. Those living near the scene say there has been a heavy police presence in the area for days.

"There was police everywhere," said resident Derrick Turner. "They've been searching for three or four days. They had four or five, six police cars, the dogs too, going up the streets looking."

Medical examiners wore masks as they took the body back for testing.

"I don't even know the guy," Turner said. "But I'm so sorry that this happened. Because I was hoping it wouldn't be another body."

The medical examiner could not be reached for comment on when the body will be identified.
