Police: Woman shoots unknown man approaching her on Detroit's east side

Police are investigating after a person was shot early Monday morning on Detroit's east side.

Police sources tell Fox 2's Roop Raj a woman shot a man in the chest who was approaching her, assumedly to rob her.

The shooting happened in the 11,000 block of Minden Street, which is near the intersection of Gunston Street and Gratiot Avenue.

The family of Stephanie Jones says she went to the store around 4 a.m., and was approached by a man when she got home and was walking to the front porch. According to her family, she did not recognize the man so she pulled out her weapon.

After the shooting, family says the man told the woman that he wanted to kill her.

"He started getting up. The dogs pulled him back over the fence. We've got a pitbull and a bulldog. ... Big dogs. They're well trained. So, they protected her. They did what they were supposed to do," says the woman's husband, Leon Jones.

They say the woman has a valid CPL. It is unclear at this time if she will face charges.

The man is in critical condition at this time.
