Rape suspect in custody after victim flags down police cruiser getting a car wash

An alleged rapist is under arrest after his victim was able to flag down police.

The victim ran from a home in the 6700 block of Brace around 5 p.m. Thursday yelling, "I've been raped!" She ran towards Warren Avenue, where she saw a police cruiser that had just gone through a car wash.

She ran towards the police cruiser and made contact with the officer. Then, she directed officers to the home where she says she was assaulted.

A 43-year old man was taken into custody. Police believe he sexually assaulted the 40-year-old victim inside the house. The connection between the suspect and the victim is unknown at this time.

Police continued to check the home for evidence and are investigating whether he may be connected to other rapes.

The victim is being medically evaluated at the hospital.

Some neighbors spoke to FOX 2 and said they did not feel safe and did not want to get involved after witnessing the woman fleeing.
