Rescued from the wreckage Hurricane Irma left behind, this little guy was left behind as well.

Brought up from Florida with another rescued pup named Mickey, the 6-month old mixed hound was named Pluto.

"The rescue dogs, even if they look a little different, love you the same - actually they love you even more," said Susan Henderson Coley of Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. "He had a good bill of health and my goal was to have a home for him by Christmas."

But while Mickey, and the other dogs were adopted, the folks with Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue say Pluto was passed up because he was too skinny.

"Too skinny -  well that just means he needs more love and food," said Kellie Rowe, FOX 2 News Now online reporter.

Joining forces with the rescue, Rowe posted Pluto's story online.

"And then I got an email from a woman who said 'Hey I'm interested in this dog, can you help me out at all,'" Rowe said. "So I sent her back some more information."

Susan Henderson-Coley says she interviewed roughly 20 potential-Pluto owners but says Pluto, knew who he wanted.

"It was clear," she said. "He chose them."

The proud new owners of Pluto are the Cheesewright family in Grosse Pointe Farms.

"The love this dog has shown in three days is unbelievable," said Gregory Cheesewright.

So what's comparable to the love Pluto is bringing? Gregory Cheesewright's love for the Red Wings, and Gordie Howe. Now Pluto's new name: Gordie Hound.

"He now realizes he's got a place to call home," Cheesewright said. "He knows, he just knows."

And he spends every moment by his owners' sides. And he recently experienced his first Wings game.

"He sat with me for two hours," Cheesewright said. "He just sits, the TV's on."

"We estimated Gordie's birthday to be April 1st," Coley said. "Well now it's March 31st, that happens to be the same birthday as Gordie Howe."

This Gordie is already living up to his name.

"We have been blessed, my wife and I and Gordie coming together," Cheesewright said.
