Retired Saginaw detective charged with child porn

A retired Saginaw police detective has been charged with child pornography.

Brent David Vanderhaar is facing eight felony counts, announced Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

The 51-year-old was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Michigan State Police when he returned from a deer hunting trip in northern Michigan.

Police say that Vanderhaar dropped three DB digital media cards in a Mobil gas station/McDonald's restaurant in Kawkawlin Township in Bay County. on Nov. 6.

Store employees found them and the manager viewed them and reported to police.

He is facing numerous charges including child sexual abuse activity,

Vanderhaar is being held in custody in the Genesee County jail while awaiting arraignment in 67th District Court in the morning.
