Road closures, simulated gunshots part of training exercise at Wayne State University

A big training exercise is taking place Thursday at Wayne State University, involving campus police as well as city and state police and the FBI.

The training will take place between 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Warren Avenue between Cass Avenue and Anthony Wayne Drive and Second Avenue between W. Hancock to W. Warren. Those roads will be closed.

You're asked to avoid the area and parking restrictions will be in effect in the area also.

During the exercise, you can expect to see a large presence of law enforcement, fire personnel and EMS, including tactical response vehicles. During the exercise, you may hear simulated gunshots and explosions.

The goal in all of this is to help first responders better react to a large-scale coordinated attack, should it happen.
