Semi crashes into dentist office in downtown Clarkston

WEB UPDATE (11:30 p.m.): The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the truck driver ran a red traffic signal causing the crash. He sustained minor injuries, refused a trip to the hospital and denies he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A PBT test was administered with a result of .000.

Authorities were on scene after a semi truck has crashed into a building in downtown Clarkston.

SkyFOX was over the scene and the building involved says Clarkston Village Dental, which, according to its website, is closed on Fridays. A white SUV and a parked red car have also been damaged.

According to Clarkston Police, nobody was killed in the crash. Two people driving passenger cars which were hit by the semi truck were treated at the scene.

The driver of the truck has non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.

Clarkston police tell FOX 2 that there were employees inside the building at the time of the accident but they are accounted for and safe.

"We were the third car at the signal light. My sister screamed, ' my God, Oh my God'," said Carolyn Frericks.

Friday afternoon just after 1 p.m., Frericks was traveling on Main Street in downtown Clarkston when out of nowhere her sister saw danger.

"The semi was completely out of control, he was heading straight toward us," she said.

Thinking and moving quickly, Carolyn veered toward another lane and into a path of safety but other cars weren't so fortunate.

"The first car at the signal light, flew up in the air and crashed into the brick wall," she said.

And right into the Clarkston Village Dental Office

Normally closed on Fridays, the office opened this Friday to perform a few surgical procedures. Angie Brennan was one of the few workers inside the dental office. She says a quick thinking co-worker saw the semi truck move in and told them to run.

"We had no where else to go because it was the end of the wall truck was just like right there," she said.

The owner of the business says it's a miracle no one was hurt, and that there weren't any patients in the waiting room.

Prior to this collision, the Oakland Co Sheriff's Office says it received calls about the truck traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of M-15.

Officials say no one was injured in the vehicles the truck hit and all occupants in the dental office were accounted for. The driver of the semi was removed  and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was coherent.

According to state records, the truck is registered to M and M Equipment but the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Clarkston is about 40 miles northwest of Detroit in Oakland County, and is known for its ties to Michigan singer Kid Rock.

The dentist office involved is right across the street from the popular restaurant Clarkston Union Bar & Kitchen.
