Motorist in critical condition after violent collision with semi-truck in Oakland County

Crash in Oakland County. 

A 30-year-old Attica Township man remains in critical condition after a crash involving a semi-truck early Wednesday.

The collision happened at shortly before 5:30 a.m. on North Lapeer Road, near Oakwood Road in Oxford Township.

What we know:

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a man in a 2014 Buick Regal was traveling southbound on North Lapeer Road when a semi-truck attempted to use a median crossover and turned into the path of the vehicle.

Both collided, causing significant damage and trapping the Buick driver inside his vehicle.

Deputies and firefighters from the Oxford Township Fire Department responded to the scene and worked to free the driver. He was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor. However, the sheriff's office did say in a news release that speed by the Buick driver may have contributed.
