Sheriff: Dad thinks intruder is breaking in, fatally shoots his daughter

Authorities in South Carolina say a Greenville man mistook his daughter for a potential intruder and killed her.

Greenville County Sheriff's Office Lt. Jimmy Bolt tells news outlets that the man heard someone trying to enter his home early Sunday, so he shot through a door.

County Coroner Parks Evans says the gunfire fatally wounded 23-year-old Nadeja Jermainequa Pressley, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later arrested 43-year-old Jermaine Tramone Pressley after finding heroin and cocaine in the home.

Sheriff's Office Lt. Jimmy Bolt said in a statement that Pressley heard someone trying to enter his home, so he shot through a door.

Jermaine Pressley is charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.

An autopsy for Nadeja is set for Monday. The case remains under investigation.
