Shootout with Detroit police leaves officers searching for suspects

A shootout with Detroit Police Wednesday night has left the officers searching for suspects.

Police say they were searching for a stolen vehicle around 10:30 p.m. on St. Paul near McClellan, when a car pulled up next to them. A suspect got out of the rear of the vehicle and started shooting.

Detroit Police Capt. John Svec says the officers got out of their car and returned fire.

The officers were not injured, and the suspects got away.

We're told one suspect ran away and the other drove off in the vehicle, which is described as a four-door car that's either beige or brown. Police deployed at least one canine unit to canvass the area. A police helicopter was also flying overhead in pursuit of the suspect.

It's unclear if either of the suspects was injured in the shootout. Police have been checking with area hospitals for gunshot wound admittances, but have not had any thus far.
