Still no answers after aspiring young nurse from Detroit killed in her own driveway

(WJBK) - An aspiring young nurse was shot and killed in her own driveway. Several months later her killer is still on the loose. 

The tragedy happened on Mar. 11 in the 8600 block of Mark Twain near Joy Rd. on Detroit's west side. 

23-year-old Keyaira Cheatman received a text message from her mother around 8:30 p.m. asking where she was, Keyaira responded and said she was sitting in the driveway with her boyfriend. 

Then out of nowhere, an unknown suspect walked up and fired shots into her vehicle. Keyaira's mother, Holly Cheatman, heard the commotion, ran outside and found out her daughter had been struck. 

Holly instantly called 911, but her daughter died on the scene, outside of their home. 

"When we go in stores, this is what my 4-year-old grandson sees, his mommy on a murdered picture," said Holly. 

Keyaira worked at LGC Staffing, enjoyed cooking on her free time and had dreams of becoming a nurse. 

"Keyaira is not your typical run of the mill person," said Holly. "She's a good sweetheart, kind and loving person who helps others and don't want nothing in return." 

The crime remains fresh to the family, who continues to seek justice.

"Every time I go there, I just think about having to go there and my god sister was laying on the ground for all those hours," said Keyaira's god sister Angel Johnson. 

There is a $2,500 cash reward for information leading to an arrest. The family encourages anyone who knows additional information to call the Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 Speak up. You can call anonymous 

"Whoever know who did this or whoever did this, please turn yourself in," said Keyaira's cousin Candice Everette.
