Student caught with loaded gun at Spain Elementary school

A grade school student at Spain Elementary was caught with a loaded gun Wednesday.

The gun had one bullet in the chamber and was seen by a fellow student who reported it to a teacher after school, a robocall to parents and guardians said.

The student was stopped and searched. There was no evidence that the student planned to use the gun at school, the call said, adding that "criminal consequences are likely for the student's parents and student removal from the school."

The complete message below:

"We regret to inform you that a gun, with one bullet in the chamber, was discovered on a student this afternoon after school at Spain. The gun was brought to school by an elementary student. The gun was seen by another student at the end of the school day and it was reported to a teacher.  The student was stopped and searched.

There was no evidence that the student planned to use the gun at school. This matter is under police investigation where criminal consequences are likely for the student's parents and student removal from the school. 

"We want to commend students for trusting the school's personnel to act on this information. Please be sure to always ensure you are monitoring your child's behavior, secure weapons at your homes, and randomly check your child's bag before school."
