Suspect arraigned after shooting in downtown Royal Oak

The man accused of firing gunshots into a Royal Oak hookah lounge went in front of a judge Friday morning.

Deangelo Ruffin has been charged with six counts for the Sunday shooting at Hookah Joe's, which is on Washington Avenue just north of Lincoln Avenue.

Some of his charges include assault with intent to commit murder, felony firearm and discharge of a firearm into a building causing injury.

An employee suffered a minor head injury.

"He exhibited just a blatant disregard for human life. There were several patrons inside the business when it happened, and firing randomly - or at an individual that's inside a building or entering a building. We're very lucky that nobody was killed," says Royal Oak Police Department Lt. David Clemens.

Ruffin's bond was set at $300,000 but 10 percent is not an option in this case.
