Swastika found drawn in wood chips on Canton school playground
CANTON, Mich. (WJBK) - Plymouth Canton schools are investigating a swastika made with wood chips on a playground.
Parents were alerted by district phone call about the symbol Tuesday evening. The swastika was left outside the Bentley Elementary School playground, 1100 Sheldon Road.
Several students alerted a school staff member after finding the swastika, who took prompt action to remove the symbol, according to the district's director of communications.
The incident is still under investigation.
An official statement from the superintendent was released regarding the incident:
"This afternoon a swastika symbol made of wood chips was found by students on the Bentley Elementary School playground during recess.
"School administration immediately began investigating the situation by interviewing students and staff members. A robocall was sent out to parents to inform them of the incident and asked them to report any information that may assist administration in this investigation.
"P-CCS is taking this situation very seriously, and actions of this nature will not be tolerated. We will continue working in concert with Canton Police Department to fully investigate this incident.
"P-CCS will continue to build a school culture that embraces diversity and acceptance of all students."
