Teen shot by Detroit homeowner during attempted break-in: police

A teen was critically injured early Friday morning when he tried to break in to a home on Detroit's east side, police say.

A homeowner in the 2900 block of Lakewood got an alert on his phone around 2:30 a.m. that someone was breaking into his home, and drove over there. That's when police say he saw two people outside the home.

Police say one of the suspects pointed a gun at the homeowner, and the homeowner fired several shots. One of the suspects, a 16-year-old, was hit and critically hurt. The second suspect got away.

A gun was recovered at the scene.

We're told the homeowner is a CPL holder and has been cooperating with officers.
