Thieves crash U-Haul into pharmacy trying to get painkillers
DETROIT (WJBK) - An overnight smash-and-grab has left a Detroit pharmacy in ruins.
The Southwest Discount Pharmacy on Vernor Highway near Livernois Avenue was broken into around 4 a.m. Wednesday. The suspects crashed a U-Haul truck into the building to get inside.
We're told they were after the painkillers, but didn't get away with any because they're locked up.
"It shows you the extreme measures these criminals out there are going into, in order to gain access to pharmaceuticals. It shows you that there's definitely a problem," the pharmacy owner told us. He did not wish to be identified.
We're told the damage to the building is estimated at about $60,000.
This is the second break-in at this pharmacy in the last year and a half.
Police don't have a description yet to give of the suspects.
