Toyota wows with concept promising faster data

DETROIT (WJBK) - It's not necessarily the design of the car or the amazing interior; it's what's on the roof that gathered attention at Toyota on Tuesday.

The Toyota concept has a Kymeta antenna. The technology will move data through outer space into your vehicle. Faster than any data has ever moved into a vehicle before.

It will be all kinds of data, all at once, and it will be right at your fingertips.

"High density weather maps will warn drivers to pull over and avoid a flash flood, half a mile up the road. kids will have on demand gaming in the back while parents are notified of the best price on gas in a five mile radius," Kymeta President and CEO Dr. Nathan Klundtz said.

The two year old company is partnering with Toyota to connect you and the information you need via satellite. Klundtz says it will all be done and could even lower the price of some cars.

"The impact is expected...to lower the price of the vehicle. What we're doing is solving a communications problem that is currently very expensive," he said.

Klundtz would not elaborate on the cost of the concept.
