Detroit Police say two young children were found alone in a motel early Tuesday morning after a shooting and a man and woman have come forward, claiming to be their parents.

Police were called to the Cranbrook Hotel near 8 Mile and the Lodge around 12:30 a.m. when a 29-year-old reported he had been shot.

The victim told police he was walking through the hotel parking lot when he heard an argument and then gunshots. Then, the man felt a pain and realized he had been hit. He's in the hospital right now in serious condition.

While police were investigating the shooting, they saw a bullet hole in the window of one of the hotel rooms -- and found the two children inside the room.

Police say both kids are younger than two years old and there were no adults in the room. Around 11:45, Detroit police said that a man and woman contacted them and claimed to be the parents of the children. Police have not confirmed whether they are the parents of the children but are meeting with the two adults.

The children are in the care of Child Protective Services.

If anyone recognizes these children or knows the whereabouts of their parents, they are asked to please call Detroit Police Child Abuse Section at 313-596-5329.
