The family of the Michigan boy fighting a rare brain cancer whose story has been heard across the country has made the difficult decision to move the 5-year-old to hospice care.

Chad Carr is the grandson of former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr. He developed an inoperable brain tumor and he's stopped responding to treatment. Chad's parents, inspired by his courage, started a foundation in his honor which, so far, has raised more than $500,000 for cancer research.

Some big-hearted athletes are doing their part to help the family through this difficult time. Chad's mom Tammi posted a picture on her Facebook page Wednesday night.

Basketball players and coaches from the University of Michigan and Ohio State came together to surprise the family and decorate the Carr home for Christmas.

Tammi thanked the athletes on her post and said this is much bigger than a rivalry.

"Wow! Special thanks to the Michigan men's basketball coaches and staff and the Ohio State mens basketball team's coaches and staff. They came together to do this for Chad. Amazing!!!! Love and thanks to you all!! Bigger than the rivalry!!"
