Wanted hit-and-run driver turns self into Clinton Township police

Police in Clinton Township say they're no longer looking for a hit-and-run driver who they say caused a fatal accident late Sunday night.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. Sunday on Metro Parkway near Gratiot. Police say a driver struck a woman riding a bicycle, and that the woman was killed in the crash.

Police say the driver initially left the scene, but turned herself into police Monday morning about 7:30 a.m. The woman's vehicle has been impounded and will be processed for evidence.

Police have not yet given the victim's name, but say that she was riding a red bicycle and that she was in her 40s.

Police say the driver was going eastbound on Metro Parkway and the woman on the bicycle was northbound, and appears to have been in the crosswalk. The victim was taken to Maclaren Hospital where she passed away.

If anyone witnessed the crash or has information they are asked to contact Captain Bruce Wade of the Clinton Township Police Department at (586) 493-7931.
