Warren 5-year-old saves family from fire
WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - A 5-year-old girl is being heralded as a hero after she saved her entire family from a devastating fire in Warren.
Rosa Conley and Isaiah Smith are trying figure what there next move will be. They have two beautiful little girls, 5-year-old Jamirah and 1-year-old Emily. The family lost everything early Wednesday morning when their home on John B in Warren caught on fire in the living room.
"We lost everything we had. Everything we worked for," Conley said. "Jamirah keeps saying she wants to go home. I'm trying to explain it's not a home no more."
Jamirah was the one who saved her family's life. Her quick actions got everyone out safely after she somehow woke up around 5 a.m. Wednesday and saw the couch on fire.
"When my eyes opened, I saw the fire so I ran in daddy's room." Jimirah said.
Rosa says her daughter saved their lives.
"If she wouldn't have woken us up, we wouldn't have woke up. There wasn't even smok in our room," Rosa said.
Isaiah Smith tried to put the fire out until he was overcome by smoke.
"After I kept trying to put the fire out, I couldn't breathe any more, so at that point, I just knew I had to get everyone out the house," Smith said.
Thankfully, no one was injured. The family believes the fire may have been caused by an electrical problem, but that remains under investigation. At this time nothing appears to be suspicious, but just unfortunate accident according to investigators.
Meanwhile, the family doesn't have any idea what's next.
"I want to know which house we're going to," Jamirah said.
The family is staying at a nearby hotel but can't be there forever.
"I'm not sure how long we're going to stay there because we paid it for two nights, so after tonight, I'm not sure what we're going to do," Rosa said.
