Warren police officers help out single mother in need

Lillian Holt is a single mother to two boys and works the midnight shift at the factory.

"We all struggle sometimes, we all need a little help sometimes," she said. "I work from 9 to 5:30 in the morning. As a single mother we’ve got to make a way. You can’t just walk away from anything."

The backstory:

Warren police were called to her home earlier this week and after arriving, noticed something.

"We discovered her son was upset because he didn’t have his PlayStation and mom had (him) take it to the pawn shop to make ends meet," said Officer Brian Stanko.

Officers Stanko and Chad Rossow realized that Lillian and her family didn't have any beds — and very little furniture.

To these officers it was obvious Lillian needed some help. That’s why they stepped up and started making calls to get her furniture, groceries and more.

"Someone needed help and we were able to pull together resources and officers and help them out," said Rossow. "Believe it or not, we do this stuff all the time."

The officers didn't even tell the department at first — they just started making calls.

They donated their own items, furniture, even buying a load of groceries for her out of their own pockets — and to top it off, got Walmart to step in to donate a bed.

"It was a very nice thing for them to do," said Lillian. "They didn’t have to do it actually, and I’m greatly appreciative."

Now Lillian is back on her feet — and these officers — are ready to get back out into the community.

"At the end of the day it out a smile on the kids' faces, I know she was happy," said Rossow. "I was just glad we could help."

"That’s what we do," said  we’re here to help and these officers took that to the next level," said Lt. Jon Gajewski. "I couldn’t be prouder of them."
